Three Initial Ideas
Milestone 3 Presentation
Cyanotype Postcards
Our first idea was to have students design cyanotype postcards using objects around them. The goal was for students to explore and remember where they are. Students could take the postcards home, or all students’ postcards could be compiled into a scrapbook or poster to display in the classroom.
Required materials
- Sunprint paper
- Cardstock for gluing sunprint paper on to make the postcards
- UV light
- Cardboard box to enclose the UV light
- 1 sheet of plexiglass
- Materials for creating designs
- Premade materials that we bring in
- Tissue paper & scissors
- Tracing paper & black fineliners
Learning goals & objectives
Goal: Explore how different materials & exposure times change the outcome of the cyanotype
Objectives:
- Identify & predict differences in outcome when using opaque vs translucent vs transparent objects
- Identify & predict differences in outcome when layering objects
- Identify & predict differences in outcome when exposing for 5 min vs 10 min vs whatever
- (we can prompt this by asking “What do you think will happen if you [do this]?” there could be a guiding activity sheet or something?)
Goal: Engage in self-expression & personal meaning-making
