We met at IDM to do some more testing of our cyanotype process. We worked on the structure of the light box as well as tested more materials for making cyanotypes.
Selin made a more solid attachment for the light to fit neatly into the top of the box. We also worked on making sure there was not too much light leaking into the bottom of the box. We found that the exposures were better (sharper images, higher contrast) when the UV light was really well-contained within the box. (We used this light, the Caydo 20W LED UV Screen Printing Exposure Light, along with an ordinary cardboard box. Selin made a document so that an educator could recreate the box.
The kit we bought from Amazon came with a plastic frame to hang the light from. We found it to be more useful to use it to hang wet prints from.
We made a number of “samples” using various materials so that students could see examples of how different materials affected the exposure on the paper.
